Inaugural Singapore Airlines A380 to Mumbai

Today, Singapore Airlines – the world’s first A380 operator also became the very first to operate the double-decker Airbus SuperJumbo on a Commercial Flight to Mumbai (India’s first commercial A380 flight was on July 15th 2010 when Emirates substituted their regular Boeing 777 operated flight EK 516 with an A380 as a special one-off to commemorate the inauguration of New Delhi’s New Terminal 3 | photo) as well as become the first regular A380 operator to India by launching daily flights on the A380 to both the National Capital – New Delhi as well as the Financial Capital Mumbai.

Singapore Airlines Flight SQ 424 from Singapore Changi to Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport was flown on their 8th A380 registered 9V-SKH, operated by SQ’s Deputy Chief A380 Pilot Capt Ishakbhai Ibrahim and First Officer Sham Kumar Singh.

9V-SKH’s main landing gears smoothly touched-down on Mumbai’s main runway 27 at exactly 9:49pm.

The a/c never stopped for the Water Canon Salute & kept-up a gentle taxi all the way till the L1 door reached its Code F gate # 70.

There was incredible buzz for this inaugural arrival as the last time an A380 landed in Mumbai was back in May 2007 during its initial sales tour for the now defunct Kingfisher Airlines and as soon as the ground engineer put the chocks in place, all the ramp workers & other staff present moved-in for their Selfies 🙂
